Then he saw a video that showed children who had lost their parents to AIDS, and decided to do something to help. On World AIDS Day, 2004, Austin shot 2,057 free throws to represent the 2,057 kids who would be orphaned during his day at school―and raised almost $3,000. Since then, thousands of people (including a lot of Revolve Tour girls) have joined Austin in a basketball shoot-a-thon called Hoops of Hope and raised over $1 million. They’ve built a school, a clinic, dormitories, and much more. Austin’s still a regular kid, but he’s a regular kid who’s making a difference. Now Austin is a finalist for the People magazine All Stars contest. Then he saw a video that showed children who had lost their parents to AIDS, and decided to do something to help. On World AIDS Day, 2004, Austin shot 2,057 free throws to represent the 2,057 kids who would be orphaned during his day at school―and raised almost $3,000. There are three finalists representing each Major League Baseball team. The top vote-getter for each team will attend and be honored at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game in Anaheim and one will be featured in PEOPLE magazine. We would LOVE for Austin to be the top vote-getter! Make a difference for Austin―and help spread the Hoops of Hope story―by voting for Austin today.

Here’s how:

Go to People Magazine’s All Stars Content

Click the Atlanta Braves (far right on screen)

Then vote for Austin!

It’s the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time: Every day, thousands of children lose a parent to AIDS. YOU can help. How?
We recommend two organizations working in Africa (and around the world) to combat this disease.
World Vision: Sponsor a child, change a life! – Just $35 a month. Another option is purchasing a gift - your money will be used to help World Vision’s efforts around the world
Hoops of Hope: Shoot free throws, raise money―help children in Africa
Even as you read this sentence a child is losing a parent because of AIDS. In 2001, UNICEF estimated that 6,000 children lose a parent to AIDS every day. Each child has a name — and a heart-breaking story. Please help.
