To Toss or Not to Toss (That Is the Question)

With big holiday dinners on the horizon, there’s something we need to discuss: leftovers. Some people refuse to eat any leftovers. Others probably resuscitate Sunday’s roast beef long after it should have been passed along to Fido. But if you’re wondering whether your meal or any ingredients in it are salvageable or not, check out StillTasty.com, the ultimate shelf-life guide.

Type the name of the food into the Keep It or Toss It search engine and you’ll find out how long it can be kept in the pantry, refrigerator, or freezer. The site also provides tips for the best ways to store each type of food. It’s a great resource for being safe, not sorry. (When the verdict is a “Toss,” you can still keep it out of a landfill by composting!)

I’m sorry to say I have a terrible reputation.
Everyone in my family knows I grow the best green stuff in the fridge. I was raised to be very thrifty and have such a terrible time tossing food. Glad to say no one has gotten sick from eating at our home. Of course they all check dates in the pantry too.
And thank God for my husband who helps clean.

Throw them out! I used to keep all of the leftovers anticipating that my family of 5 (all boys) would eat them. At the end of the week my fridge was full of leftover containers that I would have to throw out the food and wash the containers. So finally I just stopped keeping the leftovers.
Now I ask if anyone wants any of the leftovers. If no takers, I toss! I know it is wasteful, but if we aren’t eating them I see no reason to keep them.

There are 8 of us in our family and yes, we eat leftovers. Most of the time there aren’t any left to worry about. lol
    God bless you.

When my three children were growing up, we did not have “leftovers”…we had “planned-overs” !!!!!

Our house is definitely a LEFTOVERS house. Nothing tastes better the day after Thanksgiving than turkey, lettuce and that jellied cranberry sauce on whole wheat bread with a smear of whipped salad dressing. YUM! My sons prefer to eat the leftover green bean casserole, that is, if there is any!

We keep left overs – even when we go to the restaurant. When I was growing up, my parents both worked – so Friday night came out all the left overs for the week and we had our own buffet. I survived and never had food poisoning. Everyone knows that left overs taste better the next day :)

I always keep leftovers and use them. I try to keep an eye on them and throw them out within a day or 2 depending on what it is.

I’m definitely an “eater” of leftovers and occasionally enjoy something that seems to taste even better the second time around. But I also eat leftovers that I would never consider serving company because they don’t really look good (but often taste wonderful).
